Welcome to the American Language and Culture Center, a part of the Office of International Affairs. We have a lot to offer ESL learners, including flexible start dates, experiential learning, and integration of technology into the curriculum. We welcome students from many countries around the world. We are located in , which is a fabulous community to live and learn in.

Our Intensive English Program is structured in six terms that are seven weeks long. This provides flexible admissions dates to applicants. The tuition cost is $2,256 per seven-week term (beginning Fall 2017). Housing options currently include university housing, local apartments, and homestay with local families.

Many of our ESL students improve their English language skills through our program, and then apply for undergraduate admissions at to become full time, degree-seeking students. We offer a Dual Enrollment Program to assist students in the transition from the Intensive English Program to the university. As a part of our Dual Enrollment Program, students take between 6-9 credits of General Education or major courses, as well as 6 credits of Intensive English.

Applying for undergraduate or graduate status at SUU requires that international applicants show proof of language proficiency. Students may submit test scores as proof of language proficiency:  IELTS (with 6.0); TOEFL (with 525 on the paper test, 197 on the computer based test, or 71 on the internet based test); or iTEP Academic (with a 4.2) before admission as full-time students. However, students who graduate from the SUU Intensive English Program are not required to submit test scores in order to apply to SUU.

For students who have matriculated into the university, we provide language support in the form of Workshop Classes. These are small, collaborative classes during which students may work individually and in groups to gain extra support in challenging classes or assignments. We offer workshops in four areas: Reading, Writing & Research, Pronunciation, and Presentation Skills.

We also offer a Community ESL Program, which is generously supported by Zions Bank. This is a 14-week, open-exit program which provides community members for whom English is a second language with communicative language skills.

We are much more than textbooks and papers. The university setting provides opportunities for ESL students to learn English outside the classroom. Cedar City is close to many national parks that attract visitors from around the globe. The Brian Head Resort ski area and Las Vegas are also within driving distance of Cedar City.

Please contact us with any questions you have, and consider joining us in Cedar City to take advantage of our excellent program.
