If you are passionate about both teaching in the public school system and writing creative work such as poetry and fiction, SUU has the right program of study for you. Our new composite English BA allows you to focus your study simultaneously on both of your passions. This degree will broaden your creative and academic experiences while preparing you to teach English composition, English literature, and creative writing in the secondary education system, making you far more marketable than students possessing just an English teaching degree

  • Our faculty include former public school teachers and award-winning writers of fiction and poetry
  • Our average creative writing and upper-division English class size is 21.5 students, allowing our majors personal contact and professional attention

We also publish an annual student literary magazine, The Kolob Canyon Review, and host two annual conferences: a Creative Writing/Creative Teaching Conference in the fall and our Creative Writing Conference and Contest for High School Students in the spring.
